Artist Statement

My work depicts intense moments of joy through abstractions of nature, loud color palettes, and expressive organic forms. These compositions are meant to express powerful feelings of ecstasy and becoming one with the environment.

The images I create are brought to life using acrylic paint, oil paint, and/or digital collage. Regardless of the medium, I work by layering, erasing, exaggerating shapes, and building free flowing circular forms on top of existing representational imagery. The imagery I begin with is typically inspired by the intrinsic beauty of nature. From there, I also draw inspiration from my experience traveling to see improvisational “jam band” music. The abstracted images within my paintings are meant to evoke a similar feeling as the patterns and flowing movement within the music. Outside of the musical composition, I am inspired by the fans, many of whom partake in mind altering substances. I am drawn to the energy of those enjoying the music at heightened states, physically expressing themselves without the limitations of societal stigma. I find myself as both a voyeur and participant surrendering to the flow of humans becoming one with the music and environment.

Many of my recent years have been spent researching and finding moments to draw inspiration from. Now, I am in full creation mode, using my existing life experiences and building new ones to spark my passion and creativity.
